This week we give you a very quick guide on how to paint your face like a Panto Dame using just 5 products.
Whilst many professional Dames favour traditional grease paint to create their look, we’re going to show you how to create your Dame face with some water soluble paints, a basic eyeliner, and some lippy! This is a quick and easy option and perfect for those with minimal make up skills (like Sarah!!😂).
Follow the steps below and watch our video here and you'll be an expert in no time!!
You will need:
Using your glue stick, apply the glue to your natural eyebrows and brush them in an upwards direction to get them to lie flat. You can powder them after they are dry if you have powder to hand.
Using a wet brush, mix your water soluble face paint in the pan until you get a nice thick but smooth paint - you don’t want it too wet. Start by drawing a line from the far edge of your natural brow to the outside edge of your eye. Use this as a guide for filling in the colour. Apply the colour to your eyelid up to the bottom of your natural brow as evenly as you can. It’s best to try and cover in one coat, as a second coat may result in you removing the make up you have already placed and it looking patchy. You can add some glitter here if you’re that sort of Dame! Wait til it’s dry before moving onto STEP 3.
Using the white face paint, paint over your natural brow that you have glued down. Make sure you mix your face paint to a nice thick consistency.
TOP TIP: Apply the glue to your fake lashes now so it has time to become tacky before you need to attach them!
Using your black eyeliner, draw yourself a new eyebrow above your glued natural brow which you have just painted white. It can be thin/ thick/ arched or hairy - let you inner Dame dictate your style!
Using your black eyeliner pencil again, add any additional eyeliner around the eye. The look here is again dependant on your character, but I often add a line at the corner of the eye following the bottom line of my eye colour. You can do a further line below the eye if you wish to give the impression of lower lashes.
Attach your false eyelashes, checking that the glue is tacky first. You can apply both top and bottom lashes if you wish, though to be honest a whopper of a pair on your eyelids hides a multiple of sins in your make up application and distracts from your lower ones!
TOP TIP: Apply the eyelash on the opposite side to the hand you write with first - a bit of confidence will make placing the next one far easier!
Every Dame needs a bit of colour so it’s time to rouge up! Using your lipstick, draw yourself some nice rosy circles on the top of your cheek bones and blend out with your finger. If you want a more defined look, scrub the blending and enjoy a pop of colour!
No room for subtlety in a Dame’s lip! Get your bright red lips ready! You can either draw a heart shaped lip across the centre of your lip or just fill in your natural lip emphasising your cupids bow. Apply straight from the lipstick tube - you want to be big and bold (yes you could outline your lips first with a lip pencil and then fill in, but to be honest you don’t need to be too accurate!) . Once your colour is on, blot your lip on a tissue. You can apply some powder here too to set the base colour, but it’s up to you. If you’d like to line your lips, use your black eyeliner pencil (or a red one) to trace the shape of your outside lip - it can be handy for correcting any wonky bits! Follow with another coat of lipstick to make you bright and beautiful!
TOP TIP: To create an exaggerated cupids bow, draw a cross with your lipstick at the top centre of your lip to create a pout to be proud of.
And finally what self respecting Dame would be without a beauty spot? Grab your black eyeliner pencil again and get drawing! Big, small, round, heart shaped, feminine or hairy - your inner Dame will guide you again!
Follow with a quick puff of powder if using or some setting spray and you’re ready to meet your audience!
We really hope this has helped you create your inner Dame, whether she’s a fuddy-duddy or fabulously fierce! Now, get on stage and show everyone your bloomers! Good luck!
Until next time…
